Which Boot, When: Ankle, Knee-High or Over-the-Knee

A guide to boot heights: which to wear with trousers, skirts and dresses, and in which month, in stock now.

12 pieces in stock at Mytheresa, Runway Catalog, Revolve and FWRD, as of October 17

The rule is simple: the shorter the hem, the taller the boot. Trousers take an ankle boot. A midi skirt takes a knee-high boot, so the hem overlaps it. A short dress or a long knit takes an over-the-knee boot.

And the colder it gets, the higher you go: ankle from October, knee-high from November, over-the-knee for the deepest weeks of winter. Here are a few of each, side by side.
